I wish I could just let all of today’s youth know that it isn’t worth trying so hard to grow up so fast. And I wish I could let them know that the only reason why others bash them for being different is merely because they don’t know anything else other than pretending to be something they’re not just to fit in with everyone else. Because that’s all that it is, you know? It isn’t like anyone is really who they say they are in terms of the clothes they wear and how they act in front of others and the shit they talk about everyone who doesn’t seem to do the same thing. Because it’s like we grow up into that and spend all of our lives putting on our act in society. We go to school and we are expected to be a certain way for the teachers, we are expected to listen to what they have to say and take it in even if we don’t agree with it. We are also expected to stay in school so it will ‘look good’ when it comes to finding a job, and those who turn the other way and do what they truly feel is right for themselves are labeled as ‘failures.’ We are expected to worry about dressing ‘appropriately’ as well, through school and on throughout our careers; no bright colored hair or piercings or tattoos as if self expression is an “irresponsible” thing because that’s the image they put on it. And then of course, we’re expected to worry about impressing our bosses so we can “make it” in society. But what is “making it” anyway? Money, cars, big houses, expensive clothes? All of which are considered as the image of “success” when none of those materially wealthy people even know what true happiness really is. I mean, we definitely don’t live in a society where individuality and open-minded thinking are highlighted… if anything, that kind of human nature is frowned upon. And it’s to the point where people are scared to not fit in, so they throw away everything about who they really are and put on a front.
